Documentary Showcases ARCA’s Participation in Corporate Health Program

Director of award-winning Forks over Knives documentary to film wellness program

MEBANE, NC (July 30, 2013) – A group of ARCA employees is being filmed while participating in the PlantPure WellnessSM program for an upcoming documentary. The PlantPure program promotes and supports consumption of a whole-food, plant-based diet. Developed by Campbell Wellness, LLC, this program is based upon research summarized in the best-selling books, The China Study and Whole. Both books were authored by Campbell Wellness Senior Science Advisor Dr. T. Colin Campbell.

The documentary will record the effects of the diet on participating ARCA employees and other members of the local Mebane community. ARCA employees will be weighed and have cholesterol levels measured before and after participating in the program.

“In interventions we’ve done in the past, we’ve reduced average total cholesterol levels by 20% or more,” said Nelson Campbell, president of Campbell Wellness, LLC. “If you get a population to that point, the risk of chronic disease within that population falls right off the table.”

Employees who participate in the 10-day “jump-start” program will be provided with meals every day and can determine for themselves how the diet changes the way they feel.

Aubrey Meador, president of ARCA, is excited about what improved health can do for his employees. “If we can improve employees’ health,” Meador says, “we’ve improved their family lives and we’ve improved the whole way that they look at life. Then, we will have made a big impact.”

A film crew began shooting at ARCA’s office in Mebane in early July, and Campbell came to give a talk about the jump-start on July 15th, at which point ARCA employees were able to sign up to take part in the program and be featured in the documentary.

Campbell has found evidence of significant improvements in health care costs for employers who promote the plant-based lifestyle among their employees.
