Mebane Company Creates Unique Program to Promote Better Employee Health

July 16, 2013

Mebane, NC (April 30, 2013) – ARCA, a global leader in the cash automation industry, is now offering partially subsidized memberships in Maple Spring Garden’s Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. This is believed to be one of the only occasions of an employer, helping subsidize employees’ membership in a CSA.

“This is the first instance I am aware of corporate sponsorship of CSA shares,” said Ken Dawson, general manager and farmer at Maple Spring Gardens. “I think it is a great idea and would love to see this become common.”

By enrolling in the program, ARCA employees are supporting a local farm while receiving weekly produce that is fresh, local, and organic.

“We decided to offer the CSA program as a way to promote healthy living among our employees,” said Mort O’Sullivan, Founder and CEO of ARCA. “I think one of the best ways to do that is to encourage people to cook their own meals using ingredients sourced from local farms.”

The CSA works by having subscribers pay an annual fee before the growing season begins to reserve a share. This helps the farmer with production planning and provides much needed cash to get the crop planted. In return, the member receives a weekly box of produce for the entire growing season.

“Supporting local farms strengthens the local economy and helps to preserve rural land surrounding urban areas,” Dawson said. “Also the CSA model is financially beneficial for farms, ensuring a market for produce and early season cash flow. This helps make small farms viable.”
